The task
A real quarterly model that got corrupted by a bad merge in a shared drive. Eleven sheets, about 4,000 formulas.
The corruption introduced circular references. Here is the trap: three circular references in the original were deliberate, part of an iterative solver the analyst built on purpose.
Every attempt so far has "fixed" the file by removing all circular references, including the three that were supposed to be there. The output balances and is silently wrong.
Why this matters
This is the class of task where a confident, plausible, wrong answer is worse than no answer.
